We let Anelka go too, though he was on loan (though we could have bought).
 
I'm not claiming Crouch is as good as Torres, but letting him go (and not man managing him so he wanted to go) was a big mistake too. We didn't replace him properly.
 
But, I'm not convinced that letting Torres go would be a mistake...it would depend when he went and for how much and who we spent the money on.
 
Let Chelksi offer £60m in the summer, or £50m now plus Anelka (well we need a striker who can go straight into the premiership and prosper).

I think it's fair to say that Torres will be the best player 'lost' at or
near his prime since Keegan.

The trouble is, I can't see us being as fortunate with his replacement this
time :o(
