so he saw the event (even though he wasn't looking at it) and gave a free

it on video and confirmed that no further action is needed.

The idiocy of this claim they are making is that it overlooks the obvious point that the assistant ref was inches away from the incident and had to have seen it perfectly, if he had been any closer to it then rooney might have got him in the face too.

Re: [lfc] Re: No Surprise Really

I doubt this guy will get off so lightly:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/8353367/Deportivo-Pereira-defender-Luis-Moreno-kicks-Atletico-Juniors-owl-mascot-during-match.html#

Panama defender Luis Moreno is facing sanctions after he kicked an injured
owl that had landed on the field during a league game for his Colombian club
Deportivo Pereira against Atlético Junior.

The owl was being treated Monday at a local veterinary clinic in
Barranquilla after Moreno had kicked the bird and is expected to recover
from a suspected minor fracture to its right leg.

The bird, which serves as mascot for Atlético Junior, was first struck by
the ball near the Pereira penalty area prompting the referee to stop play.
As the referee and players discussed what to do Moreno - apparently
impatient over the delay with his team losing 2-1 - was seen to kick the
bird towards the touch-line with his left foot.

"The player should be severely punished for this painful, horrible act of
intolerance," Ramon Jesurum, president of Dimayor [the Colombian league],
said before adding that the case would go before the Dimayor's disciplinary
committee.

Atletico Junior fans chanted "murderer" at the Panamanian player, according
to Colombian media. He was also reprimanded by opponents and apologised
after the game.

"I apologise to the fans, it wasn't my intention," he said as he left the
field escorted by police.

Swap deal for N'Gog?

http://www.caughtoffside.com/2011/02/28/liverpool-line-up-move-to-sign-barcelona-youngster-on-season-long-loan-deal/

Liverpool are lining up a move to sign Barcelona
<http://www.caughtoffside.com/tag/barcelona> youngster Bojan Krkic
<http://www.caughtoffside.com/tag/bojan-krkic> on a season long loan next
term with a view to making such a move permanent on the completion of the
initial temporary deal. The Nou Camp side are reticent to sell the talented
attacker but are also aware that the Spanish international is growing
increasingly disenchanted by his lack of first team football.

Anfield Director of Football Damien Comolli, who helped bring Giovani to
Tottenham from Barcelona <http://www.caughtoffside.com/tag/barcelona>
during his spell at White Hart Lane, is a big fan of the 20 year old starlet
who has become something of a cult hero at the Catalan giants and believes
he can convince Pep Guardiola to allow the loan move to become a reality.

Bojan is now in his fourth season in the Barca first team set up and is
arguably no nearer securing a regular first team spot with the likes of
David Villa and the up and coming wide man Pedro forcing themselves ahead of
him in the pecking order. The recent arrival of Dutch international Ibrahim
Afellay has further restricted his playing time and things look likely to
come to a head in the summer.

Though Bojan is tied down to a long term contract it is thought that loaning
the pint sized striker, who also plays effectively out wide, is an idea that
Barcelona are willing to entertain as it would in many ways kills two birds
with one stone. More playing time will help appease a player who clearly
wants to make it at the La Liga champions whilst also helping to hone his
skills with competitive football.

Liverpool could well do with more attacking options as apart from new
signings Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll the Merseyside club's fire-power is
seemingly non-existent. Whilst Dirk Kuyt can pitch in with important goals
he is by no means prolific and the likes of David N'Gog, Milan Jovanovic and
Joe Cole have alls failed to shine at the club.

Re: [lfc] Phil Dowd

Caroll is going to be very rusty for a few games when he does come back, and
it would be silly to throw him in to such a game.

Dowd as it could apply to Webb too.

Oh and btw....Clattenberg saw it for sure...right

Re: [lfc] Re: No Surprise Really

Check the youtube of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPzQ9Y-oziY&feature=player_embedded

Clattenberg isn't looking at it, just as Webb wasn't looking when he redcarded Stevie

Clattenberg did manage to comfort Rooney though.

have a listen to tonight's 5 Live Sport discussion they had about it,
about 15 minutes in to the programme.

the statement from Mike Riley, the head pf refs, is laughable.

Clattenberg refereed it correctly because while he might not have seen it
directly he, like all refs, is trained to use peripheral vision to pick up
on events.

so he saw the event (even though he wasn't looking at it) and gave a free
kick so that's all there is to it. in fact, subsequent to that, he's seen
it on video and confirmed that no further action is needed.

even if he HAD said he was wrong and it warranted a red card it's likely
that the FA would have ignored what he said because of the FIFA directives
on not undermining ref's on-field decisions with 'trial by video'. this
last bit was from Graham Poll, incidentally...

ironically, the referee's assessor in the stands is required to review the
video of the whole game to mark the referee's decisions, so if he decides
that it should have been a red card then Clattenberg can punished. errr...
isn't that trial by video ?
