In the space of a week, LFC went from their initial offer of 12m to a deal worth around 22m, give or take a bit. This is for a player who plays in arguably a weaker league, where the likes of Kezman, Kuyt, Alves and Huntelaar thrived, before failing to cut it as strikers in one of the top leagues (La Liga, Serie A, and the EPL). Would we not have been better waiting until the summer and taking our pick of strikers, without having to pay the inflated prices demanded in the winter transfer window ? With or without Suarez, we are not going to make the CL spots so where's the urgency to make a signing ?
I can only think we upped our offer by so much because we know we are going to lose Torres. I reckon he has made it pretty damn clear that he wants out and a deal will be done this week. I would have preferred if he waited until summer, but at least it's now out in the open, and if this sparks a bidding war, then all the better. We need cash, desperately. Short of buying 4-5 decent players this summer, this team is going nowhere.
