I would agree that it is serious when an infection keeps you in hospital for
a week - but I doubt that this is the end of the career.

As has already been said, this could be a blessing in disguise. While
Gerrard still has a lot to offer, we have to accept that at his age he is
now starting to enter the declining phase of his career. We now have suffit
of midfielders - it's time to try out a few different combinations and
formations for a time when there is no Gerrard.

More likely sarcasm.

As long as we don't rush him back, this could turn out pretty well, the new
players have time to settle in without a player who can somewhat overshadow
the teamwork and thus when he returns he will slot into more easily
alongside the new people along with being fresher towards the end of the
season.
