Re: [lfc] You Have To Laugh

So our 2 main responses should be:

1. The politicians should stop talking bollocks about reforming FIFA.

FIFA likes being a corrupt little despotic empire where everyone greases
each other's palm with silver and the same people will get the perks and the
backhanders for a generation before handing over to another bunch just as
corrupt if not worse. The turkeys aren't going to vote to behead themselves
anytime soon. I'm sure the reward monies will soon be flowing downwards,
never to be seen by the people / sub-organisations on the ground that really
need them. It would likely have been just the same had someone else other
than Blatter won.

That's the reality and politicians should stop jumping on the bandwagon and
deal with something more important. The sad and concerning thing is that
this is the way the world is generally headed. On a wider macro-political
point the West is no where near finished, and the US in particular will
continue to be the leading power (and then a very, very strong power) for at
least another 25-50 years - but the powers that are rising are not
democracies that embrace universal values but despotic regimes riddled with
corruption that make FIFA look like Mary Poppins - and that is likely to
influence the globe as a whole over the course of the next century.

2. To quote Father Jack (a.k.a. Bill Thomas) "Feck em"

We've got the richest league in the world and that isn't likely to change
anytime soon. Money talks. And while FIFA may control the global game -
their grip on the club game is very, very weak - as is UEFA's. There may
well come a time when the clubs in the big European Leagues look to break
away again, and that more than anything else will spell the downfall of the
governing bodies.

so the 2 main, predictable outcomes of this FIFA shambles...

1 - Blatter gets voted back in 'cos he's dead great and can do no wrong
2 - not many people like us English

;-)

unfortunately, having been 3 months old i'm coming to the conclusion that
i'm not going to live long enough to 'see' another World Cup in England...
