California's Digital and Multimedia Occupational Guide recommends that aspiring game designers complete their education at the same time they are compiling a portfolio, linking up with trade organizations, and taking internships with game design companies. 

Ø  Mean annual salary for multimedia artists and animators, 2007: $61,010  

Ø  Highest-paying state: California, with a 2007 annual mean wage of $79,070  

Ø  Metropolitan areas with the most professionals in the field: Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, and Seattle.
