Larger hotels with multiple layers of management offer the best opportunity for advancement. General managers usually oversee operations and supervise the people running specific departments. An associate degree can get you started as a trainee or assistant manager. At least a bachelor's degree, if not a master's, is traditionally required to become an upper-level manager.
