"I'm prepared to accept that a number of players we're looking to sign do make five or six - but I don't wish to specify positions other than one is obviously a front player.
"In January we should be really looking to solve one or two situations. We are desperately short of players. Front players.
"Having three front players at the club, and that's if you include Ryan Babel, is nowhere near good enough.
"If Fernando (Torres) isn't playing one week, you have got to get someone in who has got the same level of quality."
The figure of £20 lillion has been bandied around for the January window. For 5 or 6 players that would be £4 and under per player....what the hell are we getting with that? Let alone "someone in who has got the same level of quality." as Fernando Torres. If £20 mil is the budget, we should be looking for 2 players at most.
We were doing fine when we were adding the likes of Torres and Mascherano for big money and then when the money dried up it all went pear shaped. We need to get to the point where we have a very good at least first eleven and then be able each year to bring in at least one top class player while bringing on our own youngsters. The trouble is that we could use nearly £100 million to bring us to that first eleven and I don't see these owners producing that. And even if they did, would you want to trust Roy Hodgson to use it wisely??? In deed would Hodgson even have any real knowledge of top emerging players outside of the home nations?
