Subject: [lfc] Non LFC: FC Twente
From Soccernet:
A stand at FC Twente's Grolsch Veste stadium has collapsed and Dutch
police say an unknown number of people are trapped under the structure.
News agency ANP reported that fire and ambulance crews have arrived at the
scene and a Dutch police spokesman said: "Part of the roof has
collapsed. There are people under the rubble. We don't know how many."
Reports have suggested that two support beams buckled, although the reason why this happened is not yet known, with at least five people known to have been injured.
The news first broke on Twitter, with some people posted pictures of the scene. The stadium is currently being redeveloped.
De Grolsch Veste, or The Grolsh Fortress, was extended to a capacity of
24,000 in 2008. It was being extended again ahead of the new season, to a capacity of 32,000.
Twente are not due to play at De Grolsch Veste until August 13 when they entertain AZ Alkmaar. And they will also have a Champions League qualifier to host later that month.
Twente president Joop Munsterman maintained last month that: ''We have put a lot of private money in the expansion of the stadium, as we play next
season in front of 30,000 men in the Grolsch Veste.''
Whoever is under the rubble, lets hope that they get out safely.
