We then had £50M and knowing that we were flush with cash and needed a
striker in just a couple of hours Newcastle extorted an above market price
out of us.

Your salary is basically just a number - but if I was your boss
and told you that, being just a number and your colleague Andy in our
Newcastle office was working for half your salary so I was cutting your in
half you'd cry blue murder as you were not getting value for your labours.

Totally agree it builds confidence. Very disappointing result today bad
goals to concede. Downing was trying to make things happen and showed
some good touches. Carroll was very poor he really needs to work on his
first touch, he gets into good positions but a work in progress.
