I reckon we had to buy when Torres fukked off, and as such were over a barrel. Newcastle took full advantage, and fair play to them. The fact that it was dirty oil money makes it easier to stomach, but £35m for a non world class (yet) centre forward is a bit much.

That said, I was happy when we signed him. We've needed someone like him for years. Even if he never scored a goal for us, his presence on the pitch will have the opposition worried and should free up space for the others.

The way Luis and Dirk have hit it off though has me worried about Carroll. I think Luis is more of a 1-2 kinda player, as opposed to a "running onto a flick on" kinda player.

Maybe if we can get some width in the team, we can have the best of both worlds. Stevie behind Andy and Luis, with winger(s) out wide. Stevie playing all delicate with Luis, or get the ball out wide and give the big man something to attack.

It'd definitely work in Championship Manager! ;-)
