Re: [lfc] Re: EW

Kuyt seems more comfortable up front than on the right, He and Suarez wk'd well together so i would prefer to see him in that position, Carroll [ok semi injured] did'nt do it for me 35mil or not, One of the reasons we didn't perform so well i thought v villa...anyway for me next season Hypothectically it would be something like....

GK: Reina, RD:Johnson, CD: Carragher, CD: ??, LD:?? RM:?? CM: Gerrard, CM: Meireles, LM: Maxi {or ??} ST: Suarez, ST:Kuyt
SUBS: from GK's ??,Gulacsi.. DEF's Kelly, Flanagan, Skrtel, Agger, Wilson, ??, Robinson, MID's Shelvey, Leiva, Spearing, {?? or Maxi}, STK's Carroll, ??, Pacheco?

1, Should send Dani back out on Loan
2, Think Gerrard and Meirless are the best CM pairing we have
3, Tend to thin Carra should spend a little more time on the bench this season, Each season he gets a touch slower in the old body..still damn good tho.
4, I like the fact that Kuyt is a wk horss and as a secondary Stk would be very useful drifting back to Mid..Not a fan of Carrol yet.

The issue with Agger is that he is both too good a player to keep on the bench and to unreliable to depend upon as a backup, it would just end up being the same situation we had at leftback this season where aurelio was the backup in theory, but always injured and unavailable when even roy spotted how shit pfk was. I think you either need to put up with agger's injuries and keep starting him or decide that enough is enough and replace him as a starter and move him on in the process as a cd with his skills and a lack of injuries won't come cheap and you need to consider the ffp rules.

There are limits to how far you can strengthen the bench with signed players, but signing two new attacking starters does do that since it would push the likes of Maxi and Kuyt to the bench and with gerrard back there would be more competition for central roles pushing somebody like meireles there at times too.

Out players i'd agree bar Agger, Still think he has a lot to offer and at worst a place on the bench could minimise injuries..would he be happy with
that more so than not...would any player for that matter..

I think all players on the bench should be able to contest and get a starting berth anytime otherwise we become to shallow, sort of like we are now.

>2 or 3 players in the off season seems a bit light, more like 5 or 6 players to to cover those likely to be shown the door, we will be pushing for top 4 next season and look what happened v Tottenham and Villa...Kenny will try to overt that happen again but not only end season so we need to strengthen out wide and at the back with 1 more Striker as well.

When people are saying 2 or 3 players, most tend to mean 2 or 3 new starters and not just squad players who will be added depending on sales and/or progress of youth players.

If we have a serious clear out and manage to move on even those with big contracts like cole then we would need a few more than 3.

Looking at our squad though we could readily remove 8-10 players and not need anywhere near that many brought in.

We could get rid of the following:

Jones - have had young keepers on bench for most of kenny's stay.
Konchesky - nuff said
Soto - Carra should probably have transitioned to senior reserve by end of next season
Agger - he would need to be replaced by a new starter of similar quality if we decided injuries were too much.
Degen - nuff said
Poulsen - nuff said
Aurelio - would be useful backup if fit, but never is.
Insua - would prefer to bring him back, but out of our hands now.
Aqualani - would be asset if he stayed or should pay for replacement if he is sold
El Zhar - nuff said
Jova - done little at club, but would make us back a fee.
Cole - tough to move on due to wages, but would still draw some interest if he doesn't just settle for our bench.
N'Gog - shows promise at start of season and then vanishes a couple of months in, 4th choice striker should be youngster coming through or kuyt if we make a big signing up front.

Signings for next season should be:

Starting leftback - backup options aren't too bad now, but we need a starter

Starting central defender - only needed this summer if we decide agger is simply too fragile to depend on

Attacking players - whether they are out and out strikers or wider players we need a couple of these and their arrival would also strengthen squad depth by pushing the likes of maxi and kuyt to the bench.
