The trouble is that history is a funny thing, and no matter how successful
you are, sometimes you just can't knock history off your back.

Take us for example, Paisley won far more than Shankly - but 9 times out of
10 it is always Shankly that is referred to as our greatest ever manager.

I think it will be the same for Utd - at least amongst the true, non-glory
hunting prawn-sandwich brigade who remember the world before 1990. Events
like Munich and winning the European Cup when it was a true champions
competition as the first English side to do so will always put him above
Fergie. And of course, he did play for a decent club side during his playing
career ;o)

If he doesn't bring in two starting centre mids this summer then you would
have to think that he is tanking the squad so his eventual replacement
cannot match up to him because I think that whole knocking them off their
perch thing also applies to past manc greats like Busby too in his mind.

In some ways you might also think that him not mentioning any concerns about
the amount of debt that has been loaded onto the club by their owners also
goes to the issue of him doing what is right for his record since they give
him money for signings right now.
