You are of course underestimating the effect of Super Danny Murphy:-)
Partly his time at Blackburn and his journeyman reputation, and the Mike Walker graveyard of 'next England manager' candidates. As I've said before it's something I can't put my finger on but he just seems an unLiverpool manager - Mr anti-football as many are dubbing him.

The club are partly responsible as both were given far more power than their predecessors. I hope henceforth that these inner-club power games between manager, academy, board and squad aren't tolerated.

Tbh he wasn't asked but put his name forward so I would hope he was going into it with his eyes open.
This was supposed to be a long exhaustive search but I think Roy's won't-rock-the-boat appeal got him the gig from day one and Deschamps, Pellegrini, Rijkaard were just a sham candidates to give the pretence of a search. No coincidence they picked the guy who'd have the least ambition, in fact one cockahoop to get another job at a big club.
