well, we're all very quiet aren't we ?

so just for something to say, did anyone hear the 'Monday Night Club' on
Radio 5 on, errr, Monday evening? they had John Motson and a journo whose
name escapes me who ended up arguing with Steve Claridge about the
'disputed' goal against Sunderland.

very entertaining to hear Claridge arguing how he thought there was
nothing wrong with the goal as any player would have done the same thing
and it doesn't matter whether the ref was right or wrong, Sunderland took
the free kick from the right place and Torres was fully in the right to
take the ball etc etc. Sunderland appealed but the player who took the
kick knew he'd made a mistake. the journo argument was that it was
'against the spirit of the game' and that Torres could have scored but
felt guilty and knew he'd done something wrong so passed it to Kuyt so he
had an 'accomplice'.

in fact it's still available on the BBC Radio 5 iPlayer (presumably only
if you're in the UK) here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ctvmw

the conversation starts at 36:10 but starts to get more juicy around
40:23.

i think you might be able to podcast it as well, but i could be wrong.

they also had a lot of texts agreeing with Claridge, along with a few that
called Torres a cheat and called for Torres and Kuyt to be banned because
'everything that's wrong with football is condensed into that goal'.

go on, give it a listen...
