Isn't that what's happening with Fabregas? I could be wrong, but he doesn't have many years left on his contract i believe. Wenger of course is in a position to value the player's impact on the field over the residual value of any potential sale and he probably feels that Fabregas wouldn't sign a renewal anyway so he probably just wants to use as much of Fabregas' influence on the pitch as far as possible.

We could and one day I'd like to see a club make a player honour the lucrative contract he signed. Alas, I think with the over inflated transfer market, clubs would rather sell than lose the millions in income from getting rid of a player who wants to leave. Maybe in hindsight we should have let Mascherano go last summer when his value was higher...
