Firstly they needed to win the battle in the press, there is no sane reason why a player who has behaved as badly as him since the world cup should be getting portrayed as anything but the bad guy in this, whereas you had messi and those other ***** over there trying to make out we had basically got him locked up in a cell when all we were after was a fair price for a player that cost £18m when he arrived, had improved while he was here and still had 2 years left on his contract.
If he did refuse to play, which nobody has confirmed then they should have come out and said that, showing his lack of professionalism and confirming that you have agreed to sell him despite his value to the club and his antics because you are reasonable, but in turn you expect him and barca to be reasonable and give him a realistic valuation and maybe pointing out how much toure left them for.
Finally, the club should not be so quick to dismiss the bid from inter, more than one potential buyer and the price should clearly be higher.
Clearly, he had to be sold, but being given away for such a pittance is completely pathetic, especially when this was not somebody who could sign a bosman pre-contract and january, he was 18 months away from that and we had no need to capitulate in the manner we have done.
